Jesus said ;I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness
but will have the light of life.
John 8: 12
St John the Baptist Mission Statement
The picture taken in our ruins in the Summer of 2011 shows a walk under the ancient Yew trees from darkness into light. Here in the Ruins of the once great Cathedral Church the sheer simplicity of the message of Christ and the play of light and dark in the picture encapsulates the first part of our Mission, which is quite simply to bring more people into the fellowship of Christ’s Church.
The second part of our Mission is to put St John’s at the very heart of the Community of Chester, both for the scared AND the secular, by making our Church available for acts of worship, sometimes in addition to our own, but also by the staging of plays and concerts which will appeal across a wide spectrum – from the ancient to the modern; from the Classical to Rock.
The third and final part of the Mission is to make the Church better known to the people of Chester and to Visitors from both the UK and the World. St John’s is a Grade I listed building and part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is indeed the ‘hidden gem’ of Chester.
