2019 Annual Reunion Day
and
AGM

Our Annual Reunion Day this year will take place on Saturday 9th November 2019. This year we are celebrating our Centenary and following a break for a number of years, will be holding our Reunion Dinner in the Cathedral Refectory. This has changed from what was originally in our previous correspondence. Members of the Association have also been invited to sing the Canticles and Anthem at Evensong so, the format of the day will be as follows:

1:00 – 2:15          AGM in the Cathedral Education Room (The former Song School)

2:30 – 3:15           Rehearsal for singers in the Song School

3:30 – 4:00           Full rehearsal with Cathedral Choir in the Quire

4.15                       Evensong & Procession to the Memorial Window in the North Cloisters

C V Stanford in C

Greater Love, John Ireland

(At the memorial window – Thou knowest, Lord, Henry Purcell)

5:30 – 6:45          Pre-Dinner drinks reception at The Canonry, 9 Abbey Street, Chester. CH1 2JF (Steep steps so will aid those who request)

7:00 – 10:00        Centenary Reunion Dinner in the Cathedral Refectory

As usual we shall remember by name those former choristers who have died during the last year, or those who, because of age, illness or infirmity are unable to be with us. Please do let me know of any members who should be remembered in our prayers. We particularly remember our former President and dear friend Canon Dennis Charles Kelly, who sadly passed away on the 3rd July this year.

Those few members who have annual subscription are reminded that their payment is due on 1st October and will be at the current rate of £6.50. The Life membership rate of £50 remains the same and is particularly good value for money (if you are a long-standing Life Member, why not consider renewing?). Even a small donation will assist us in keeping the Association alive and allows us to make these donations to the Cathedral Music Department. We also ask you to consider a donation to the Bridge Memorial Fund which gives grants for a variety of reasons which have included the likes of music lessons to current and former choristers.

The Cathedral are fund raising for the Cathedral Organ. The Choir Organ has now been fully restored by David Wells of Liverpool and now they would like to concentrate on restoring the Main Organ to its full potential. You can donate to the General Appeal via the attached form. You can make a one-off payment or spread the donation via a monthly payment.

If you are intending to sing during Evensong, please indicate on the application form. Please send any other correspondence to me the address at the top of the application form.  Please note that payment for subscriptions will be required by cheque made payable to Chester Cathedral Old Choristers’ Association.

If you have any news that you would like putting in a proposed newsletter, please include it in the appropriate place on the application form. We also welcome any information to put on our website. Please send them to me at the email address on the letterhead or post them to my address. Plain text is easiest to send.

Please do make every effort to attend the AGM, Evensong and Centenary Reunion Dinner. We hope to be able to give you an update on our plans to hold the Federation Festival in September 2020 as well!

Once a Chorister is now available online via the Federation of Cathedral Old Choristers Website in pdf format. To download the latest copy, please click here.
